Our Cycas were started from seed 3-4 years ago and are entirely produced at home with love in the greenhouse.

Cycas revoluta is a species of plant in the Cycadaceae family native to the Nansei and Ryūkyū islands in Japan and the Chinese coast. Cycas is not a fern, although it resembles a tree fern, nor a palm, although it has the same habit. It is a seed plant (spermatophyte) classified as a Gymnosperm, and has retained obvious archaic traits, such as motile male gametes (antherozoids, functioning as giant plant spermatozoa)

When did Cycas first evolved?

The oldest cycad fossils date from the early Permian (280 million years ago) or late Carboniferous (300 to 325 million years ago) periods. During the Jurassic period, they were so common that this period is sometimes referred to as the “cycad era” (along with the dinosaurs).

Cycas revoluta is a very small sigle trunck tree growing up to 5 meters tall, with a large trunk (or stipe) and an underground stem. It can live quite a long time. The oldest specimens reach 6-7 meters in height at the age of 80. It is a dioecious plant (with distinct male and female stems). It is an indoor or outdoor plant in the warmer months of the year, although the species can withstand cold temperatures of -5C, it will always be a pot plant in our latitudes. In our opinion, it's one of the most beautiful indoor plants, and very easy to keep because of its robustness.
