The Oxydendron arboreum, also called Andromeda tree, is a shrub with remarkable flowering in summer and whose appeal continues thanks to its foliage which ignites in autumn.
The flowering of the Oxydendron arboreum is very abundant and lasts at least two months. It consists of white bells gathered in long hanging clusters of 10 to 25 cm. Its foliage is deciduous and turns purple-red in autumn. Its slender pyramidal habit and its long, slightly inflected branches make the Andromeda tree a very elegant and airy shrub. In Florida, where it originates, it is a tree that can exceed 25m in height, but in our latitudes, it rarely exceeds 5m. Like many species in its family, this shrub only thrives in acidic substrate. It is also recommended to protect it in winter and plant it in a place sheltered from cold winter winds. Possibility of planting it in protected zone 5a.
