The red pine gets its name from its bark, which ranges from reddish to pink. It can reach 35 meters in height and have a trunk of 75 centimeters in diameter but sometimes a meter in diameter. Its dark green, shiny needles are grouped in twos and measure 10 to 16 centimeters. The trunk of the tree is usually slender and straight. It prefers to grow in full sun. Stronger than white pine, red pine wood is highly sought after. This tree has a beautiful appearance which can be suitable for ornamentation in more northern regions. It prefers sandy, well-drained soils.
