The Lorraine pear tree is self-fertile, very productive, and hardy in zone 4. It produces flavorful pears that melt in the mouth and have a taste very similar to Bartlett. The pear is harvested in early September and is perfect for eating fresh.
The Lorraine is a yellow-green pear, with a slight red tint on the side directly exposed to the sun. It is an elongated pear with a long stem. The fruits are larger when they have been thinned. They weigh on average 100g.
The flesh has a yellow tint; it is juicy and fragrant. It melts under the tooth when the pear is fully ripe. It is sweet and delicious. Overall, its taste is very similar to that of Bartlett.
The fruit is ready for harvest around early September. The fruits all ripen at the same time. As is the case with many pear cultivars, they must be picked before full maturity since they ripen from the inside out.
These pears can be stored for about a month in the cold.
