Zone 5b but can be grown in pots in zone 3 or 4
One of our most popular and reliable varieties, Paw Paw 'Sunflower' produces good crops of very large, sweet and delicious fruits. The variety won first prize at the 2010 Ohio Pawpaw Festival. Asiminas (Asimina triloba) are one of the most unique and delicious fruits that can be grown in the backyard orchard.
Native to eastern North America, the papaya is the only member of the Annonaceae, or custard apple, family that is adapted to temperate climates. Its tropical relatives include cherimoya, atemoya, guanabana, and soursop, and it's easy to see the resemblance between the papaya fruit and that of its tropical cousins. The fruit combines a delicious, fruity banana flavor with creamy, creamy flesh. Nutritious and delicious, the 3 to 6 inch long greenish-yellow fruit is exceptionally rich in protein and a good source of vitamins and minerals. Everything about this plant, from the size and shape of its leaves to the look, taste and smell of its fruits, is tropical, but it is cold hardy to zone 5 and can be grown in temperate climates from coast to coast. A small, slow-growing tree, the Pawpaw is naturally resistant to disease and pests and features long, tropical-looking foliage that turns a striking bright yellow in fall. The largest Native American fruit, asimine was an important part of the Native American diet and, with our superior large-fruited varieties, is enjoying newfound popularity.
