Paulownia tomentosa, a tree of Asian origin now cultivated all over the world, particularly in the United States, because of its rapid growth. In around ten years, it can reach 12 to 15 m and at the age of 30, the base of the trunk can measure 1 m in diameter. A phenomenon.

In Quebec, according to the experience of a gardener in Montérégie, the tree can reach the exceptional height of 568 cm (18 feet and 6 inches), once the leaves have fallen following frost. Amazing! Growth of around 4 cm per day. Almost six meters in one summer! I don't know of any other plants, native or not, that grow so quickly here.

The tree is hardy in Quebec, at least in zone 5; due to frost, it behaves more like a shrub with tender stems. The branches do not usually survive the winter and each year, the plant instead forms a grove of which some stems can reach the astonishing size of 3 to 4 m, in addition to giving gigantic leaves, as happened with me a few times. Available in good quantities in 6 foot or more format but following the winter, they will freeze and start again the following year.
