Our seedlings come from hardy and resistant Quebec hybrid chestnut trees.
The hybrid chestnut, as its name suggests, is a hybrid between the American chestnut and the Chinese chestnut. This hybrid has made the tree very resistant to the microscopic fungus which has been decimating the majestic American chestnut for almost 100 years. The hybrid produces larger chestnuts than the latter but the tree is considered slightly less hardy zone 5a-5b. We recommend planting several plants in a nut orchard for good chestnut production. A single subject will not produce production. Ideally, if you have little space, we recommend 3 chestnut trees in the same sector of the land because the pollinator is complex.
