This chestnut tree is very popular for its white campanulate flowers variegated with red and yellow and its large, palmately compound leaves. This tree is frequently planted as an ornamental tree in southern Canada, particularly in large cities. It tolerates urban conditions very well. It can reach an imposing size. It produces spiny bugs with 2-3 large, inedible inner seeds that closely resemble chestnuts.
