The
Green Ischia fig (also known as Verte or Strawberry Verte) is renowned for its intense strawberry-jam flavor and exceptional sweetness. It is widely considered one of the best-tasting green-skinned varieties by fig enthusiasts.Flavor Profile
- Taste: A rich, concentrated fusion of berry and honey notes. When fully ripe, the flavor is often described as deep strawberry or raspberry jam.
- Sweetness: High; it is frequently characterized as "intensely sweet" or "syrupy".
- Complexity: Features subtle earthy and melon-like nuances that balance the sugary sweetness.
Texture & Experience
- Interior: The pulp is a striking, vibrant strawberry-red that is succulent and jammy.
- Consistency: The soft pulp is often combined with tiny seeds that provide a crisp, light crunch.
- Skin: The exterior is semi-thin and smooth, contributing a slightly chewy finish without being tough or distracting from the flavor.
Key Characteristics for Harvest
- Visual Stealth: Because the skin remains green (sometimes turning yellowish-green) when ripe, it effectively hides from birds that usually target dark-colored fruit.
- Ripening: To get the best flavor, look for the fruit to become soft and heavy, sometimes showing slight "sugar spots" or cracking on the skin
