It is a very early cultivar capable of producing regularly every year. Its apples are firmer and redder than McIntosh and they keep well. Once reaching the adult stage, the tree is not subject to strong vegetative growth. Additionally, its overall growth slows down as soon as it enters production. Empire apples naturally have a beautiful color when they grow on a tree with airy branches; the problem of premature fall does not arise and fruits harvested carefully at the right stage of maturity have a good aptitude for conservation (5 to 6 months).< em> Susceptible to scab and bacterial blight.
Planting distance between trees: 14 feet.
