Brown Select Satsuma is a refined variety of Japanese mandarin (Citrus unshiu ‘Brown Select’) prized for its sweetness, almost complete lack of seeds, and ease of peeling.

Taste and use

  • The fruit is often seedless, very easy to peel, with sweet, juicy pulp and just the right amount of tartness.
  • Ideal as a snack, for immediate consumption, or for juices, jams, and flavors added to sweet or savory dishes.

Cold hardiness

  • Brown Select is more cold-hardy than other satsumas, tolerating temperatures as low as −9°C (15°F).

Growth & size

  • In its dwarf form (grafted onto a dwarf rootstock), it reaches about 2 m (6–8 ft), ideal for terraces or balconies.

Cultivation & Care

  • Exposure: full sun, essential for fruiting and fragrant white flowers.
  • Care: well-drained soil, regular watering but without excess (risk of rot). A substrate rich in organic matter and well-drained is ideal.
  • Fertilization: moderate, in general, annual repotting is sufficient to provide the necessary nutrients.
  • Flowering: appears in spring (March-April), the flowers are white and very fragrant.

Light

  • Soleil

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver trees 7 ft and taller! (Nursery pickup only). • SPRING DELIVERIES HAVE ENDED. All new orders will be delivered in Fall 2026.
