The bitternut hickory is one of the two hickories present in southern Quebec. It is also the hardiest of the hickories. It does not produce edible nuts because its nut is very bitter. It is an ideal tree to plant in close plantations, to enrich its woodland (woodland) and for agricultural hedges because its wood is very interesting, rare and at the minimum of its use, will give a lot of heat when burning. Its wood is one of the heaviest in Quebec, surpassing that of sugar maple. It can also be renaturalized in places where it has disappeared due to agriculture.
