The fruit is sweet, juicy and semi-grippy. Purple in color, its fruits mature at the end of August. It is also very resistant to disease. This plum comes from a complex crossing of sand cherry (Prunus besseyi) with Japanese plum genetics. The breeder's goal was to obtain a Japanese-type plum that was hardy enough to grow in the northern American Midwest, while having the quality to compete with Japanese plums readily available at West Coast summer growers' markets. .
