For zone 3a, very decorative and shrubby. A small all-purpose tree
Green foliage turning red in fall. Bright pink fruits (disamares) in July which persist on the tree through winter. It adapts to several types of soil, but prefers moist, well-drained soil.
Appearance: globular port; dense crown; single or multiple trunk; purple twigs in spring; grayish bark in spring
Soil humidity: high, medium or low
Soil texture: clayey, loamy, sandy or organic
Soil compaction : tolerance
Rooting: superficial rooting; fine and numerous roots, easy planting
Note: easily tolerates urban conditions; the coppiced forms seem more resistant, the few cankers and necroses do not affect the growth of the tree
