Sweetgum is a majestic tree native to the United States from the Northeast to the Southeast. It is a very large tree, with deciduous, webbed leaves of 5 to 9 lobes and a balsamic odor. The fruits appear in the form of inedible spiny balls. Its leaves in autumn are adorned with magnificent colors between gold, copper and purple. Its growth rate is rapid and it is an easy-to-grow tree with little susceptibility to disease. However, it is not very hardy in Eastern Canada and will only grow in the southernmost areas. Rare and beautiful specimens are found in the greater Montreal area.Recommended in zone 5a and tested in zone 4b
