It produces pink flowers in early spring, followed by tasty golden fruits in mid-summer, good for canning; quite ornamental, ideal for the home orchard; needs full sun and a pollinator. Flowers may be damaged by late spring frosts. It produces red, yellow fruits that are usually ready to harvest in late summer. Note that the fruits have hard-to-remove pits inside that should be removed before eating or processing. The fruits have a sweet taste and firm texture.

This tree is usually grown in a designated area of the yard due to its size and square footage. It should only be grown in full sun. It does well on average in wet conditions, but does not tolerate waterlogged soil. It is very tolerant of urban pollution and can even thrive in urban environments and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location.
