The Umbrella pine is a large-growing conifer in the Pinaceae family. It is native to the Mediterranean basin, but introduced to many regions a long time ago. It reaches an average height of 20 m, and its crown spreads over 10 m. The young trees, very branched from the base, show a clearly ball-shaped shape. Their growth is quite rapid, after the rooting phase which can take 2 years.
The umbrella pine is a majestic conifer, to be highlighted in isolation in a large garden, because although it takes up little space on the ground, its crown needs space and light to develop well.
The pine nut harvest takes place in summer or early autumn, depending on the climate.
