Magnificent, very rare tree
Sassafras is a rare tree species in Canada, growing only in a few places in southwestern Ontario. The genus of this species has only one representative in North America and 2 are native to Eastern Asia. It is a small tree with rare multiform foliage which does not reach more than 10 to 15 m in our latitudes and rarely more than 25 cm in diameter in Canada. Its foliage in autumn is magnificent and very varied as the photo shows. Its only fault is that it suckers a lot so it would be better to reserve a small, quiet corner for it on your land or flower bed. The Iroquois laurel, as it is sometimes nicknamed, will not fail to attract attention with its unusual foliage and its small honey-producing flowers which attract many species of butterflies and pollinating insects in spring.
