Large graceful and majestic tree that can reach 18 meters high by 15 meters wide or more, with a rounded crown and a weeping, ample and flexible habit. Its green foliage turns yellow in autumn. Its flowers in the form of yellowish catkins are followed by fruits of little interest. Adapts very well to soggy soils, but dry soils should be avoided. Light pruning is carried out in spring. Very developed and invasive root system. Use in isolation in large spaces. This species is native to China. It was imported to Europe in the late 17th century from Japan.
Widely popularized by culture, the species has become naturalized on all continents, notably in Europe, the United States, Africa and Australia. Like all willows, the weeping willow prefers cool, damp, wet soil. Hardy in zone 4a. It especially prefers full sun and rich, heavy soil like clay. It likes to grow in places where the water table is close to the surface. An essential tree for large spaces!
