The Precious apricot tree is a hardy and uncommon variety, ideal for cold climates such as Quebec. Discovered in Ontario in the early 20th century, it is believed to have originated from Russian seedlings introduced around 1900.

🌳 General characteristics

  • Origin: Ontario, Canada
  • Hardiness: Zones 3 to 4, tolerates temperatures down to -40°C
  • Growth habit: Semi-dwarf, reaching 4 to 6 feet (1.25 to 2 m)
  • Pollination: Self-fertile, but the presence of other apricot trees can improve production
  • Flowering: Late, reducing the risk of damage from spring frosts

🍑 Fruit

  • Size: Small to medium
  • Skin: Thick, yellow-orange
  • Flesh: Sweet, melting
  • Stone: Contains a sweet, edible kernel reminiscent of almonds
  • Harvest: Mid to late July

  • Disease resistance: Good, especially against monilia
  • Adaptability: Suitable for humid or sub-humid climates
  • Production: Reliable, even in difficult climatic conditions
