Pluots, by definition, are three-quarters plum and one-quarter apricot. The skin of this large, chubby-cheeked fruit turns mottled brown and pale yellow when ripe, hence the fanciful name dinosaur egg, under which it has also been marketed. The flesh, which is bright red, fading to a pinkish white near the center, is incredibly sweet with a distinct plum and apricot flavor that has given Dapple Dandy the edge in many taste tests.< strong> It is known as a good pollinator for other pluots and plumcots.
