Catalpa bignonioides, the Southern catalpa is a deciduous tree of medium development, belonging to the Bignoniaceae family. It is native to the southeastern United States. Its large, somewhat exotic leaves and rounded silhouette, combined with rapid growth, have made this species valuable for decorating parks and gardens. In addition, it produces deep shade, where it is pleasant to cool off, and in addition, offers attractive summer flowering. The common catalpa is an excellent tree to use alone in the lawn. Horticultural varieties provide diversity in foliage, or more compact shapes interesting for smaller gardens.
