The Cephalanthus occidentalis is a very branched and original shrub with its summer flowering in creamy white pompoms, very fragrant.

Also called Buttonwood or Blackwood, this small shrub has leaves 10cm long, deciduous, oval, lanceolate, shiny, medium green on gray-brown branches. In July, tubular flowers gathered in compact pompoms, creamy white, fragrant, 3cm in diameter, grow at the end of the branches.

Native to North America, this fast-growing shrub can reach 2 to 3m in height in any moist soil in a warm, sunny situation. Easy to maintain and a very good candidate for tight spaces, pruning early in spring involves removing dead wood and some old branches. A melliferous plant, the Cephalanthus occidentalis is ideal in marshy soil or on the edge of a pond associated with other plants.
