The yellow birch can reach 30 m in height and 60 cm in diameter, but diameters of more than 90 cm can be observed. This tree is native to northeastern North America. It is the largest birch tree in eastern Canada. It can live up to 200 years, sometimes more. Its branches have a mint flavor and its buds are characterized by its two shades of brown and dark yellow. Its dense, heavy wood, easy to stain and polish, reddish brown in color, is often used in cabinetmaking. It is an important source of lumber in eastern Canada. This tree presents interesting characteristics for reforestation and for the renaturalization of areas through its adaptation to various types of soil. It also remains an underestimated ornamental tree in more northern regions.
