Climbing or creeping plant with very rapid growth. Dark green, glossy foliage turning yellow-green in autumn. Orange to scarlet trumpet-shaped flowers appear from July to September and attract hummingbirds. Blooms on new shoots of the year. Prune new shoots above the 2nd or 3rd bud in spring. Clings by adventitious roots or twines, depending on the support. Ideal for covering trellises, pergolas, posts, or for covering rocks.
This twining vine with exotic looks is easy to grow in mild climates or by the sea, although it resists short periods of frost, down to -10°C on average, sometimes much more provided it is south-facing and mulched in winter.
