The Tasty Red columnar apple tree is a variety of apple tree developed for small spaces, urban gardens and container planting.
Type: Columnar apple (vertical growth, very few lateral branches)
Height: Approximately 2 to 3 metres at maturity
Width: Very narrow, approximately 40 to 60 cm
Growth habit: Upright, columnar
Color: Bright red
Taste: Mild, sweet and slightly acidic - very pleasant when eaten fresh
Texture: Crunchy and juicy
Use: Mainly eaten fresh, but can also be cooked.
Hardiness zone: Zone 4b to 8 (perfectly suited to much of Quebec)
Withstands winter cold well, but winter protection in pots is recommended.
Pruning: Little or no pruning required; remove suckers and excess fruit
Spacing : Can be planted 60 cm apart as a fruit hedge
Pot culture: Yes, ideal in 40-50 cm pots or larger, with good drainage
