🌳 General description

  • Common name: ‘Coral Star’ peach tree
  • Botanical name: Prunus persica ‘Coral Star’
  • Origin: Cultivar developed in the United States (variety from the “Stellar” series)
  • Type: Stone fruit tree
  • Vigor: Moderately vigorous to vigorous

🍑 The fruit

  • Fruit type: Yellow peach
  • Flesh: Yellow, juicy, sweet, and very fragrant
  • Texture: Firm, melting when ripe
  • Stone: Semi-free to free (detachable)
  • Size: Large to very large
  • Skin: Orange-red on a golden yellow background, very attractive
  • Taste: Excellent, very balanced between sweetness and acidity

📅 Harvest period

  • Harvest: Generally mid-August, depending on the region
  • Flowering: Spring (April), fairly late flowering, therefore less exposed to spring frosts

🌿 Cultivation and care

  • Exposure: Sunny, warm
  • Soil: Light, well-drained, deep; avoid overly calcareous soils
  • Pollination: Self-fertile (no need for another peach tree to bear fruit)
  • Pruning: Annual pruning recommended to promote aeration and production

Resistance:

  • Good resistance to common diseases (blister, monilia), better than average
  • Well suited to temperate regions

Advantages of the ‘Coral Star’ peach tree

  • Excellent taste
  • Large, very attractive fruit
  • Good storage life after harvest
  • Self-fertile
  • Good disease resistance
  • Late flowering = less risk of frost

Good to know

  • Like all peach trees, it is susceptible to peach leaf curl, although ‘Coral Star’ shows better tolerance than other varieties. Monitoring and organic treatments (such as Bordeaux mixture when the leaves fall and at the end of winter) can be helpful.
  • Requires good sunlight to bear fruit well.
