Growing in a pot

The Kumquat with round fruits is more hardy than the kumquat with oval fruits. In a situation sheltered from cold winds, the adult tree can withstand -12°C but it must in any case be brought indoors in October or November. Small round fruits of approximately 2 to 3 cm cm, with few seeds.

The pulp is tangy, the peel thicker and therefore sweeter than other kumquats. We eat the orange-colored fruits, whole. With the fruit you can also make marmalade, syrups, jam. Summer flowering, giving first harvests of ripe fruits, from November to March.

The fruits can stay on the plant for a very long time, which is very ornamental. the tree is vigorous, grows quite quickly and is very fruitful with few thorns. This citrus fruit can acclimatize and bear fruit in gardens, sheltered from cold winds. Regular watering and fertilization. If your potted citrus fruit is vegetating, with yellow leaves: give it something to eat!!! (fertilizer)

Self-fertile.

Height at maturity: 6-8 feet

Harvest: all year round.

Instructions for growing in pots (recommended):

Leave the plant outside between May and October but bring it inside between October and the end of April, until the spring frosts are over. Place in a warm place on your land protected from the winds and place in full sun. Enlarge the pot every 2 years as needed depending on growth and add fertilizer of your choice as needed. Can easily withstand a semi-dormant winter period in a cool place between 8° and 14°C... Ex: semi-heated garage. Finally...Remember to acclimatize your plant to the sun in spring by not placing it directly in full sun for the first few days but going there gradually otherwise the leaves will burn in the sun in a few days.
