European Variety
Vigorous, late-flowering pear tree producing large, yellow-green fruits with an orange to light red spot on the sun side. Its flesh is juicy, tender, not very fragrant. Pick in early August when green for slow internal ripening, to consume quickly. Never wait for the fruits to ripen on the tree as they will quickly become floury and mushy.
Sun exposure. Ordinary soil, without too much sand, not too dry to fresh. Sensitive to temperatures below -25°C and to cold, dry winter winds. Deciduous foliage. Port Etalé.
It will begin to produce fruit 2 to 4 years after planting. Pruning is done in March, at the end of winter. In the fall, install a spiral on the trunk to protect it against sunburn and against rodents, for the first years.
Pollination: Self-sterile. Requires another pear tree for pollination.
Planting distance between trees: 12-14 feet.
Hardiness zone: 4
Diseases: Susceptible to bacterial blight.
