Wonderful palm tree for pot cultivation at home
Our little 4-year-old potted palms were started from seeds in 2020.
This palm, also known as the “Canary Date Palm”, is a classic that can be found on all the major avenues along the mild-climate Mediterranean coast. Fast-growing and imposing in the pot, it needs plenty of space. Easy to care for, Phoenix canariensis is known for its sturdy stipe and glossy green, crown-shaped foliage.
The Phoenix canariensis palm loves sun and warmth, even in pots, where it should be kept in a bright room. Hardy down to -8°C. For colder regions, provide a large container with drained soil, to be kept in winter in a garage or inside the house above freezing. It adapts to all soils and needs to be well watered in the first few years of planting. After that, it tolerates drought well. Don't hesitate to cut off the oldest palms flush close to the stipe (trunk).
