The shagbark hickory is, in our opinion, in the top three of the most remarkable trees in Quebec. With its bark in large strips detaching from the trunk and its distinctive leaves, it does not fail to attract attention. It has become extremely rare in southern Quebec because it is mainly dispersed by squirrels and the loss of its habitat is quickly being felt in Quebec due to rampant urbanization. In our opinion, it is a rather little-known tree that should be widely planted.
Our trees come from specimens specially selected for the size of their nuts. The nuts that will be produced will be almost double that of wild hickories. The nuts of the shagbark hickory literally taste like pecans. The tree is also recommended for plantations, nut orchards, renaturalization as well as enrichment of woodlands for the high value of its wood.
