The Morello cherry tree is a dwarf variety ideal for small gardens, or even for growing in a large container installed on a balcony or terrace. Easy to grow, this rustic and self-fertile fruit tree requires little maintenance.
The fruit is bright red to black in color. Very juicy, these morello cherries have a sweet and tart flavor. Very prolific, this variety can produce up to 50 kg of cherries per season. Flowering in April/May and harvest in August.
Pruning only if necessary during the dormant period. Prune diseased or dead branches.
Disease: Fairly resistant to moniliosis, a cryptogamic disease which causes floral bouquets to dry out. Susceptible to bacterial canker that develops on twigs.
As for pests, this fruit tree can be subject to attacks by aphids or mealybugs during the summer.
Watering:
The first years following the planting of the cherry tree are fundamental to ensure its good establishment. Regular watering should be expected, particularly during the first year, and especially during the summer months. Once adult, water your Morello cherry tree only in case of drought.
Note that trees in containers must be watered regularly throughout their life.
Tip: If its leaves curl up, the tree is thirsty.
