One of the great kings of our forests in southern Quebec which has practically disappeared. The white oak is majestic in its size, its longevity and the shape of its leaves. It has a magnificent color in fall in shades of reddish pink. Whether to pay homage to it on your land, for the production of high quality wood, for its edible acorns among the best, it is the tree that must be put back in plain sight in our landscapes because it is extremely rare and deserves the place he lost. The white oak is a large tree that can reach more than 35 meters high and can live for several centuries. Its tassels measure 1.2 to 2.5 centimeters in length. It takes them a year to reach maturity. Once ripe, they fall in autumn. Birds, squirrels and other animals feed on them. White oak leaves measure 10 to 20 centimeters in length and consist of seven to nine lobes. They are bright green above and paler below, and turn purple-red in the fall before falling. The white oak has a whitish to pale gray trunk, usually covered with long scales. Did you know? The wood of white oak being impermeable to water, it is used to make barrels. Rustic in zone 4a minimum
