Real almond tree for the production of market almonds. Must be grown in pots like peaches and nectarines because it fears frosts below -23 to -25°C. It's better not to take chances. Responds well to growing in pots by laying it on the ground in winter with dead leaves plus canvas or cover and the snow takes care of the rest. You can also bring it into an unheated garage between -20°C and 8°C or a shed. In its first year, the 'Texas Mission' almond tree variety produces attractive, fragrant flowers in spring and high-quality nuts with light brown cores in fall. The flowers are sensitive to frost like most other almond trees, 'Texas Mission' has the advantage of often flowering late enough to escape the damaging May frosts that are harmful to almond trees and is therefore ideal for colder climates. Known to be delicious, nutritious and versatile, the uses of this tree, its fruits and nuts range from culinary and medicinal applications to being an ornamental addition to any temperate garden. Partially self-fertile, you need another almond tree of another kind to produce more nuts. Very pretty and productive, the large hard shells give way to sweet almonds. This attractive tree yields large crops of crunchy almonds in the fall, and its beautiful pink flowers make it a delight to the eye in the spring. In pots must be pruned and kept around ten feet maximum. Ripens at the end of September.
