☀️ Exposure
- Ideal: Bright partial shade
 - Tolerates: Gentle morning sun
 - Avoid: Hot sun, cold and dry winds

🌱 Soil
- Type: Acidic soil (pH 4.5–6), humus-rich, cool, and well-drained
 - Dislikes: Calcareous or waterlogged soil
 - Recommended amendments: Heather soil, leaf compost, pine needles, conifer bark

💧 Care
- Watering: Regular, especially in summer and during dry periods
 - Mulching: Bark or pine needles to retain moisture and acidify
 - Pruning:
- Remove wilted flowers after flowering
 - Light pruning if necessary after flowering (do not prune late)

 - Fertilizer: Spring (special fertilizer for heather plants)

🧊 Winter protection
- Thick mulch at the base (leaves, needles, bark)
 - Protect from wind with a screen or temporary shelter for the first two years

🌼 Uses in the garden
- Heather beds (with azaleas, pieris, kalmias, heathers, ferns)
 - In a free-standing hedge or on its own
 - Perfect for creating a colorful, evergreen shaded area

⚠️ Watch out for
- Yellowing leaves = soil too chalky or poorly drained
 - Avoid nitrogen-rich fertilizers (promotes foliage at the expense of flowers)
 - Do not bury the collar when planting

💡 Gardening tip
Combine with hostas, ferns, or heucheras for a beautiful shade composition.
Under light conifers (pines, larches), it enjoys an ideal microclimate.
