🌸 Debbie's Gold Apricot Tree

🔸 General Description

The Debbie's Gold apricot tree is a very hardy variety native to Manitoba, Canada. Selected for its exceptional cold resistance and later flowering, it is an excellent choice for gardeners in northern regions.
Its golden, sweet, and juicy fruit make it both an attractive and productive apricot tree, ideal for fresh consumption or processing.

🌳 Tree characteristics

  • Mature height: 3 to 4.5 m
  • Width: 2.5 to 3.5 m
  • Growth habit: upright and vigorous
  • Flowering: pale pink to rosy, later than other varieties (reduces the risk of spring frost)
  • Hardiness: up to zone 3, perfect for the cold climates of Canada and northern Europe
  • Self-fertile: yes, but the presence of another apricot tree improves the harvest

🍑 The fruit

  • Size: medium (3 to 4 cm in diameter)
  • Color: golden yellow to orange, sometimes slightly pink on the side exposed to the sun
  • Flesh: firm, sweet, and aromatic
  • Stone: freestone (easily detached)
  • Ripeness: late July to early August depending on the region
  • Uses: eating, jams, preserves, pastries

🌞 Growing conditions

  • Exposure: full sun (minimum 8 hours/day)
  • Soil: light, well-drained, not waterlogged
  • Planting: in spring or fall, in a location sheltered from cold winds
  • Care:
    • Prune lightly to aerate the branches
    • Avoid heavy soils or excessive nitrogen fertilizers
    • Water regularly during the first year
    • Prevent disease by removing fallen fruit and ensuring good air circulation

Strengths

  • Late flowering = less risk of spring frost
  • Tasty, sweet fruit
  • Suitable for home or semi-commercial cultivation
